MPs expect reply from Speaker Azhar over Tajuddin’s ‘unparliamentary’ remarks in Dewan Rakyat

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has revealed that 10 MPs have signed a letter submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun, saying that they heard Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman using a foul word in Parliament on Wednesday.

The incident happened before the passing of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill, when Tajuddin went on a tirade against Opposition lawmakers, calling several women MPs rude and indecent. He also allegedly used a swear word not picked up by the microphones in Parliament.

“I have repeatedly said there are double standards by the speakers as they do not seem to punish men and Umno MPs,” said Yeoh.

“Tajuddin only received a warning, but Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (from Warisan) was suspended from Parliament for two days when discussing the Sulu claim last week.”

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon had suspended Munirah, and handed Tajuddin a warning.

“(Batu Kawan MP) P. Kasthuriraani submitted a letter signed by 10 MPs who heard the foul word uttered by Tajuddin,” added Yeoh.

“We expect a reply from the Speaker when Parliament resumes (today).

“Something must be done. Tajuddin is a bad example.”

Yeoh said this yesterday after launching a book, ‘The Daily Devotions For The Recovering Addict’, by addiction therapist Chris Sekar.

Yesterday, this news website highlighted several instances of MPs uttering misogynistic, sexist, and derogatory remarks without fear of punishment.
