No water again? 😠😠😠!

It’s that time of the month again!

Yes, you read that right. Water cuts in the Klang Valley.

Never mind that people are already feeling miserable confined to their homes due to Covid-19.

No water to shower, do your laundry and clean your baby? Fret not, maybe Selangor Menteri Besar will open his doors (Water Open House?) for us to access his swimming pool.

Deepavali around the corner? Never mind. If we are lucky, there will be water around this time, next year. We can have a grand celebration then.

What a joke … not!

The thing is, I don’t recall experiencing water cuts (this often) when I was growing up in Selangor in the 80s and 90s.

Even those who grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s told Twentytwo13, they don’t recall having to go through such frustrating episodes when they were growing up.

I wonder if technology is making our water management system go backwards?

Ironically, Selangor is touted as Malaysia’s most developed and progressive state.

Yet, the constant water disruption and pollution has become a perennial problem in the state over the last decade.

In September this year, four brothers who are directors of a company were charged in court for allegedly polluting Sungai Gong in Rawang on Sept 2 and Sept 3, leading to water disruption that affected over a million people.

Last week, two company directors were charged with causing mischief by disposing of and releasing waste containing hazardous material into Sungai Gong on Oct 17 and 19. Over one million people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur were affected during the episode.

The Selangor government announced last month the state had allocated RM2 million to buy four high technology drones to monitor rivers and to guard against pollution of water resources.

The drones were supposed to be used from this month.

Yet, here we are again, talking about water cuts and it’s really no laughing matter.

At this rate, Peter Raiappan, a Kuala Lumpur resident had this to say: Looks like it will be worth sinking a bore well at the backyard.
