Toh Ee Wei hopes to mark her final appearance at the badminton World Junior Championships in Canada next month with a medal.
Two years ago, the Malacca lass won a bronze with Perak lad Chen Tang Jie in the mixed doubles.
She was not so lucky last year as she and Penang’s Eng Cheong Ng only reached the quarterfinals.
This year, Ee Wei will focus on the women’s doubles where she will partner Kedahan Pearly Tan Kong Le.
The duo won the Malaysia International Youth Championships in Kangar, Perlis in August, defeating Indonesians Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Ribka Sugiarto in the final.
Their win was especially sweet, given the same pair denied them the gold medal a month earlier at the Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta.
But don’t discount her in the mixed event where coach Kwan Yoke Meng has an ace up his sleeve, ready to call up Ee Wei if the need arises.
“This year I am focusing more on my partnership with Pearly but I’m not sure if the coach wants to put me in again in the mixed (doubles),” she said.
“My target is to win a medal in my final appearance.”
“I had many breakthrough achievements this year in the girls’ singles and I want to continue my partnership with Pearly for years to come,” said Ee Wei, who helped Malacca win two golds in the girls and mixed event at the recent Malaysia Games in Perak.
But before turning her sights to the World Junior Championships, Ee Wei has some unfinished business to attend in the Purple League Junior with Division Two champions Bukit Cheras Badminton Club.
The first leg ended last week while the second round resumes next weekend at Sports Arena Puchong.
