What a difference a few months make.
In June, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was 90 minutes from delivering the Champions League trophy, only to be denied by Liverpool.
A few months earlier, Manchester United fans were delighted when former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer inked a deal to be the club’s permanent manager.
Fast forward and #oleout and #pochout have been trending on Twitter.
Granted the two clubs have had a poor start to the season but such is the demand for ‘instant success’ that fans don’t take too kindly when results don’t go their way.
Tottenham was dumped from the League Cup by League Two side Colchester last week and is sixth in the Premier League.
It was then humiliated by Bayern in the Champions League, suffering a 7-2 reverse on home soil – the largest home defeat in its history.
With squad unrest mounting, its match against Brighton could well be Pochettino’s final one if his boys don’t get a positive result.
The Argentine has been with Spurs for six years and while the team has threatened to win things, it has yet to do so.
The bookmakers’ favourite to replace him is former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese has a stellar record of winning trophies but a poor record of falling out with his players and it will be interesting to see if he can check all the egos in the dressing room.
United, 10th in the Premier League, has also been poor in the cups.
It needed penalties to beat League One side Rochdale in the League Cup and drew 0-0 with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Cup in midweek.
That marked the first time in Europa Cup history that United failed to have a shot on target.
The Red Devils take on 13th-placed Wolves on Sunday, who enter the match on a high after beating Besiktas 1-0 away from home in the Europa Cup.
With Liverpool and Manchester City continuing to set the pace, all eyes will be on Tottenham and United this weekend.
