Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police hope to uncover the individuals behind the explosive Twitter account Edisi SiasatMY.
The account was created in September and had published allegations of corruption, abuse of power and irregularities in government departments, including the police force.
Acryl Sani said police had opened 13 investigation papers after several allegations about the force were made by the account.
He said police were in the midst of identifying those responsible for publishing the claims.
“We have opened 13 investigation papers into the allegations made against several police officers, as well as the Edisi SiasatMY Twitter account,” said Acryl Sani.
“Many of the allegations have been sensationalised.”
Acryl Sani, however, promised an immediate investigation into the allegations, provided they were factual and backed by evidence.
Edisi SiasatMY responded to Acryl Sani’s claims, via Twitter, saying the IGP was covering up corruption. It went on to name several officers allegedly involved in bribery.
Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu, had in Parliament last week, highlighted the allegations made on Edisi SiasatMY.
With over 80,000 followers on Twitter, the social media account has been posting damning claims against the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. It also has a presence on Telegram.
“Look at the reports by Edisi Siasat … claiming that police personnel who wanted a promotion would have to pay RM100,000. Is this true?” Mohamad said in the Dewan Rakyat.

BATTLE LINES DRAWN IN MELAKA
The Melaka elections on Nov 20 will see three-cornered fights in all 28 state seats, with some areas having as many as six candidates slugging it out.
As expected, Tanjung Bidara would see the big guns – Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Bersatu-PN), Umno-BN’s Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and Zainal Hassan of PKR-PH – battling each other.
In announcing the names of the candidates, returning officer Mohamad Farid Othman said he received the nomination forms from Zainal at 9.02am, Mas Ermieyati at 9.12am, and Ab Rauf at 9.15am.
Tanjung Bidara falls under Masjid Tanah, of which Mas Ermieyati is the sitting Member of Parliament. She, however, won it under the Umno ticket.
Mas Ermieyati is also a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law).
Ab Rauf is the Melaka Umno liaison committee chairman and former Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker, while Zainal is the organising secretary of PKR’s Masjid Tanah branch.
SRI RAM GIVEN GREEN-LIGHT TO LEAD PROSECUTION AGAINST NAJIB, SHAFEE
Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, have failed in their bid to disqualify Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution in their cases.
Sri Ram, a former Federal Court judge, was appointed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers under Section 376(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, to lead the prosecution in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-linked cases.
He is also the lead prosecutor in Shafee’s RM9.5 million money laundering case.
Justices Yaacob Yaacob Md Sam, Lee Heng Cheong and Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali unanimously agreed that the appellants had failed to prove that the Attorney-General’s actions were mala fide and contravened the law in Sri Ram’s appointment.
JHO LOW’S MUM GETS TO KEEP PENANG BUNGALOW, MONIES
Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan dismissed the government’s bid to forfeit the RM15 million, three-storey bungalow at Tanjung Bungah Park, Penang, and monies kept in three Hong Leong Bank accounts belonging to Puan Sri Goh Gaik Ewe.
Goh, is mother to fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
Mohamed Zaini said the prosecution did not provide any evidence on how the assets were related to the commission of unlawful activities.
“The applicant also did not offer any evidence to show how the monies deposited into these bank accounts were from any illegal transactions, or that they were proceeds from unlawful activities.
“The relationship between the 13th respondent (Goh) and any of the characters or entities in the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) affairs was also conspicuously missing,” said the judge.
GOVT TO REVIEW LEGISLATION TO CURB ONLINE GAMBLING ACTIVITIES
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said revealed that the government will review legislation to curb online gambling activities.
The Barisan Nasional MP for Kuala Krau said the review would ensure laws related to gambling were relevant, as gambling syndicates have changed the way they operate.
“Our ministry and the Finance Ministry are reviewing laws related to gambling,” he said when replying to a question by Noorita Dual (Pakatan Harapan-Tenom) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
“The police are also constantly monitoring the situation and continuously carrying out operations to eradicate this problem.”
