Pressure is mounting on Selangor Athletics Association president Nurhayati Karim, with six affiliates calling for an emergency general meeting (EGM) within 30 days over alleged financial irregularities in the body’s audited accounts.
Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Klang and Hulu Selangor are also questioning the validity of the association’s April 26 annual general meeting, and have expressed their intention to remove her as president during the EGM.
Twentytwo13 has repeatedly attempted to contact Nurhayati, including after today’s press conference, but to no avail.
The under-fire Nurhayati had threatened to take legal action against the six affiliates after they raised nine complaints against her last month.
At today’s press conference, the six affiliates asked:
• Why do the association’s audited accounts for 2024 only show RM210 collected in yearly affiliate fees, when it should be RM450 – RM50 per year for each of the nine affiliates?
• If only four affiliates made payments, the total should have been RM200. So where did the additional RM10 come from?
• Since all nine affiliates attended the AGM on April 26, it implies all dues were paid – so there is a shortfall of RM240 in the accounts.
• They allege Nurhayati approved a payment of RM15,560, although the association’s constitution requires the executive council’s approval for any payment exceeding RM15,000.
The affiliates also questioned why Nurhayati rejected the nomination of Datuk SM Muthu as a candidate for the top post in the Malaysian Athletics elections on June 15.

“By right, the audited accounts are to be forwarded to all affiliates 30 days before the AGM, but we only saw them on the day itself,” said G. Mohan, secretary of the Klang Athletics Association.
“Each affiliate was allowed to send three delegates, but we were only given one copy each of all the relevant documents about the AGM. That is not fair.
“When we raised the issue of the irregularities in the accounts at the AGM, the president promised to resolve the matter within 14 days and to call for another meeting. But 19 days later, we have not heard from her.”
Mohan said the six affiliates have agreed to call an EGM within 30 days, as stipulated in the association’s constitution.
“She has left us with no choice. We had hoped to solve the matter amicably, but she has remained silent,” said Mohan.
Fauzi Manivannan Abdullah, president of the Hulu Selangor Athletics Association, is perplexed by Nurhayati’s silence, despite two-thirds of the affiliates demanding answers.
“We are here to champion athletics. We don’t want to engage in unnecessary disputes,” said Fauzi Manivannan.
“Selangor will host next year’s Malaysia Games, and many of our athletes will represent the country in this year’s SEA Games and in 2027, which Malaysia will host. We need to resolve the matter quickly so we can focus on the athletes.”
He also questioned why Nurhayati rejected nominating Muthu as a candidate for the Malaysian Athletics president’s post.
Muthu is the former president of both the Selangor Athletics Association and the national athletics body, serving only one term. While heading the national body, Muthu lost the Selangor presidency to Nurhayati.
“The affiliate here today wanted to nominate me as a candidate for president of Malaysian Athletics,” said Muthu.
“If Selangor doesn’t want to nominate me, any other state can do so.
“I’m willing to serve for the good of athletics. I’m committed to my Petaling district association, but will also find time to serve the country,” he added.
