Project 60.1 proves Manchester United and Liverpool fans can be friends … sometimes

It’s not easy being a Manchester United fan. Everyone hates us, especially you know who.

Who can forget the ABU (Anything But United) chant those days when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm?

Today we are a pale shadow of that stellar team but we are still very much abhorred, especially by you know who.

Enough of cryptic references for those who are not into football. I am, of course, referring to Liverpool.

We have been bitter enemies long before football was invented. That’s an exaggeration but you get the drift.

Great friendships have been lost because of this fierce rivalry and that’s a sad thing because it’s just football and life is not all about football.

What am I getting at, rambling on about football enmity?

Well, something heartwarming happened yesterday. Liverpool fans donated RM400 towards Twentytwo13’s Project 60.1 fundraiser. The money collected will help Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) continue with its programmes to help victims of domestic violence.

It was humbling for me because it was a touching gesture. The hardcore Red Devil may argue that our striker Marcus Rashford has done much more in his homeland but we are not in his shoes.

We do what we can within our means. And the RM400 means a lot to many people in need.

This time we are on the same side – the side of humanity. So, thank you Kopites.

The total collection for Project 60.1 so far is RM7,600 but it comes with a condition – I have to walk 25km on Nov 28 to earn it (although I have been paid upfront. Hehehe).

Twentytwo13 readers and other fellow Malaysians can donate directly to Women’s Aid Organisation at CIMB Bank Berhad 80-0238299-7 (Reference: Children’s Programme).
