Record-breaking mural makes history — and helps 10 Klang schools gear up for sports

SMK Bukit Tinggi played host to a unique celebration of sport and community when GreenBay constructed Malaysia’s ‘Biggest Floor Mural Made of Sporting Goods’ on the school’s grounds, involving students and donating the items to 10 Klang schools.

The record-breaking mural may have stolen the limelight and earned the headlines, but it was the gift of sporting equipment to 10 schools that will go a long way in developing future sporting talents.

On April 26, SMK Bukit Tinggi hosted GreenBay CES — a company that specialises in the design, building, and maintenance of data centres. Students from the school, alongside company representatives, constructed Malaysia’s ‘Biggest Floor Mural Made of Sporting Goods’ on the school grounds — earning them a place in the Malaysia Book of Records.

The 40ft x 40ft mural was made up of footballs, sepak takraw balls, badminton racquets, nets and shuttlecocks, basketballs, volleyballs, cones, bibs, and goalposts. But what happened after that was far more impactful, as shared by SMK Bukit Tinggi student, Faith Martin.

“It was great to be part of the event. The best part is, our school will receive some of the sports equipment used to make the floor mural,” said Martin, who represents the school in athletics. “This is my final year in school. I’ll be sitting for the SPM later this year. I’m glad to have contributed to something that will benefit the school and future students.”

Besides SMK Bukit Tinggi, nine other schools received the sporting goods: SK Jalan Kebun, SK Telok Panglima Garang, SK Taman Klang Jaya, SK Batu Unjur, SK Bukit Tinggi, SMK Rantau Panjang, SMK Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, SMK Batu Unjur, and SMK Raja Mahadi.

The schools were selected based on input from local education authorities and identified as those in need of greater support in non-academic resources.

GreenBay CES director Nic Chong said the company, which has a strong sporting culture, wanted to promote a healthy lifestyle among school students.

“We encourage our employees to take part in runs and marathons — and most of them do,” he said.

“We believe that health is the most valuable thing in life. For our 10th anniversary, we wanted to do something historic and meaningful, so we decided to help schools that need sports equipment.”

GreenBay CES has offices in Shah Alam, Prai (Penang), Kuching (Sarawak), and Kulai (Johor). Chong did not discount the possibility of carrying out similar initiatives in other states.

“Success lies in building people and giving back to the communities that grow with us. This is what we believe in,” said Chong.
