Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can win his first trophy with the Red Devils when the team faces Villarreal in the Europa Cup final tomorrow (3am).
The Norwegian, a serial winner as a player with the club, has had a rocky relationship with the fans since he took over from Jose Mourinho in December 2018.
He finished sixth at the end of the 2018/19 season on 66 points and had the same total the following season when the club finished third.
This season, he oversaw a marked improvement as United finished second (74 points) to neighbour Manchester City (86 points).
The fans are beginning to take a shine to him and he can repay their faith in him by winning the Europa Cup.
We spoke to some Malaysian Manchester United fans to hear what they had to say about the final.
Datuk Yushaimi Yahaya: This is both teams’ last chance of a trophy this season. What bigger motivation can there be? Villarreal needs to win to play in next season’s Champions League, while United is without a trophy for four years. The odds favour United, even though captain Harry Maguire is unlikely to play. Ole has made the team play like the United sides under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Aryton Soliano: It is going to be a cagey affair as United hasn’t been performing that well lately. Villarreal will cause problems, but I think United will see it through with a Bruno Fernandes penalty.
Akil Mansiz: The Red Devils were second in the English Premier League while El Submarino Amarillo placed seven in La Liga. Both teams had their share of ups and down but as a loyal Devil, I predict a 3-1 victory.
Valerie Nunis: It will be an easy victory for United. The younger players in the squad have done well this season and they want to prove they belong by lifting a major title. Ole has done a great job.
