Manchester City and Manchester United have not had the best of starts to the Premier League with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in danger of losing his job as the Red Devils boss.
United has yet to win at home this season and suffered a humiliating 2-1 loss in the Champions League to Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek.
Another defeat could see the Norwegian given his marching orders as United languish in 15th position with seven points from six matches.
But it faces Everton at a perfect time with the Toffees also going through a dry spell, winless in three after winning four straight league matches.
Everton sits fourth with 12 points going into this clash and it sets up an intriguing clash.
The other big match of the round is Manchester City vs Liverpool – the bookies’ top two favourites for the title.
While defending champion Liverpool has carried on its good form – albeit suffering a shocking thrashing by Aston Villa earlier in the season – City’s form has not been stellar with two losses from six matches.
However, just like Liverpool, City has a perfect record in the Champions League with three wins out of three.
It also thrashed Liverpool 4-0 in July although that result was inconsequential as the Reds had already clinched the league title.
For City fan Hanafi Mohammad, Monday’s match (12.30am), is a chance for The Citizens to get their league season on track.
“It is going to be a tough game. Liverpool is at its best now while City is struggling in attack and defence,” said Hanafi, who has been supporting City before Sheikh Mansour Zayed Al Nahyan bought the club.
“I’m just hoping for a 1-0 victory this time.”
He said City needs a defensive midfielder who can stop counterattacks and read the game brilliantly.
“We really do miss Nigel de Jong!” said Hanafi, who chose to support City as he wanted to be different from his Manchester United supporting friends.
“We also need to sign a good striker. (Sergio) Aguero, who is my favourite player, is coming to the tail end of his career. We should sign Earling Harland if we get the chance.”
Asked what City should target this season, Hanafi said the Champions League as it has never won it.
“Just to prove City is not jaguh kampung,” said Hanafi, whose most memorable moment as a City supporter came in 2012 when Aguero struck a last-minute winner against Queens Park Rangers as City pipped United to the title.
Other matches which catch the eye are West Brom hosting Tottenham (Sunday, 8pm) and Leicester vs Wolves which starts two hours later.
