Seeths Nair is no stranger to helping the needy. Although the project manager does not run a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the social worker is ever ready to volunteer a helping hand.
While helping those affected by the December floods, Seeths received a request from Rumah Hope, a sanctuary for abused, neglected, and underprivileged children.
When Rumah Hope opened its doors in 1994, it had five children. It now has 58, under its roof. It survives on public funding and sponsors.
Rumah Hope’s Amy D’Cruz informed Seeths that they needed to buy groceries. The latter also promised to treat the children to a special lunch ahead of the Chinese New Year.
In 2019, Seeths organised a lunch for Siddharthan Children’s Home and arranged for a Christmas party at Rumah Hope in 2020.
The Chinese New Year lunch took place last Friday. Seeths enlisted the “caterers to the stars” – Chef On Wheels – to provide the food.
“I believe if every one of us does a small part, we can make the world a better place,” said Seeths, who was involved in the National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s house-to-house Covid-19 vaccination programme as a volunteer driver.
“My friends chipped in to make the lunch possible.”
Seeths was planning on buying them some local food – curry, fried chicken and vegetables – but Chef On Wheels gave an option of a Western set.
“There was spaghetti Bolognese, fried chicken, salad, garlic bread, and fruits. They even included goodie bags for the children.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the food as it is not every day, they get to eat such cuisine.”
Chef On Wheels is no stranger to charity, too.
It was at the forefront when Malaysia was under the initial Movement Control Order in 2020, with its ‘Sponsor A Meal’ programme.
It was an initiative that fed the homeless and frontliners, such as nurses, law enforcement officers, and university students stuck in dormitories.
Chef On Wheels’ Seet Wai Song also galvanised a group of food and beverage entrepreneurs – FnBulous – to prepare over 2,000 meals for Taman Sri Muda folk in Shah Alam who were badly affected by the floods two months ago.
The group also distributed drinks, canned food, soap, detergent, rice cookers, kettles, school bags, pet food and clothes.
