Safee Sali honoured with EPIC-status card in Konami eFootball, hopes more Malaysians earn that ranking

Safee Sali, who helped Harimau Malaya win the 2010 Asean Championship Cup, was one of the most feared strikers of his generation.

Now 40, the former Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Johor Darul Ta’zim player received a new accolade today when he was presented with an EPIC-status card by Konami, which signed its first partnership deal with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The EPIC-status card is part of the Harimau Malaya Stars series, celebrating Safee’s enduring legacy. Those who receive EPIC-status cards are usually honoured for their outstanding performances, skills, and influence over the years.

“Everyone who plays video games knows Konami. I’m extremely proud that I have been chosen as a recipient of an EPIC-status card.

“It is my wish to see more Malaysian footballers in this category,” said Safee, the first Malaysian to play in the Indonesian league when he joined Pelita Jaya in 2011.

“eFootball is more popular with the younger generation of fans, and I’m excited that those playing the game will get to know me better.

“I encourage Malaysians to join the game and play as our national heroes such as Arif Aiman, Dominic Tan, Paulo Josue, and myself. Let’s show the world what Malaysian football is capable of.”

Konami and FAM will launch exclusive campaigns to connect eFootball with Malaysian fans, featuring unique activations, competitions, and events.

“I can’t wait to see what they have planned, and how we can get closer to Harimau Malaya fans, who are the most passionate of supporters,” said Safee.

“I still miss playing for Harimau Malaya, but I can relive my glory days by playing this game.”

Safee said he was keeping a close eye on the Asean Championship Cup, where Malaysia is currently third in Group A behind Thailand and Singapore.

“The team faces a tough match against Singapore, but playing at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil gives us an advantage,” he added.
