Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) and its global media partners have made several pledges and will activate an action plan to promote and strengthen sports integrity.
During an online gathering to address the current challenges facing sports integrity earlier this week, SIGA and its media partners recognised the significant role that sports can play in today’s society and the global economy – only if governed by, and operating under the highest standards of integrity, and free from corruption and other threats.
In a joint statement yesterday, SIGA and its media partners agreed to unite and cooperate to usher sports and the sports industry into a new era of enhanced governance, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
SIGA and its global media partners will:
- assert the need to positively impact sport integrity and implement long-overdue integrity reforms across sports. This can drive meaningful cultural change to enhance all aspects of sports to preserve positive values and safeguard invaluable social, educational, and cultural roles, while impacting the global economy.
- encourage the sport movement, as well as governments, international organisations, global sports business communities and civil societies, to assume their own responsibilities, and adopt and implement the SIGA Universal Standards on Sport Integrity, and the SIGA Independent Rating and Verification System.
SIGA and its global media partners also congratulated the G20 for the important strides in the field of sport integrity, in particular, the development of the G20 High-Level Principles on Tackling Corruption in Sport.
The coalition will also develop an action-orientated network. This network will unite behind common sport integrity goals and facilitate meaningful change.
