SJI’s Board of Governors: Former principal transferred in best interests of school, its students

St John’s Institution’s (SJI) Board of Governors claims the transfer of its former principal K. Ravi Chandran is above board, and had nothing to do with him meeting Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak.

The Board of Governors, in a press release dated Feb 19 and signed off by Robitahani Zainal, said that Ravi Chandran’s transfer to SMK Maxwell was undertaken by the Kuala Lumpur Education Department, after careful consideration of various factors, including the long-term interests and welfare of SJI and its students.

“The Kuala Lumpur Education Department, in consultation with the relevant stakeholders, including the Board of Governors, arrived at this decision following a thorough evaluation process, which took into account multiple confidential reasons,” the board said in the statement.

“It is important to emphasise that Sultan Nazrin is held in the highest regard by the Board of Governors and all stakeholders of SJI. Ravi Chandran’s audience with His Royal Highness did not in any way move the board to take steps which led to his subsequent transfer.”

It added that its priority was to maintain the integrity and reputation of SJI, the Board of Governors, and Sultan Nazrin, an alumnus of the school.

“SJI remains committed to upholding the highest standards of education and professionalism, and the Board of Governors will continue to work closely with the Kuala Lumpur Education Department to ensure the smooth transition and continued success of the institution.”
