From creating an inclusive state economy that will benefit the people to encouraging successful Kedahans to contribute to their home state – these were some of the calls made by the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, over the weekend.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the Ruler’s 83rd birthday celebration at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar, Sultan Sallehuddin also expressed his gratitude for the state’s investment performance, as it reflected investors’ confidence in Kedah’s potential as a competitive and stable investment destination.
Kedah has attracted numerous global players, with several establishing and expanding their operations at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
The Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff; the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah; and the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff, also graced the event.
Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor; the State Secretary, Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali; and State Executive Council Members.
The Chief of the Defence Force, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar, headed the list of recipients of state honours. Nizam was conferred the Darjah Datuk Seri Setia Pahlawan Yang Amat Dihormati, which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri Pahlawan’, at the ceremony.
Here are some highlights from the Kedah Sultan’s speech:
“I wish to emphasise that the state’s economy must be comprehensive, inclusive, and directly benefit the people.”
“I want to see strategic focus given to high-impact sectors that not only generate high-skilled job opportunities but also bring significant economic spillover effects to the state.”
“If every successful Kedahan contributes back to the state, then this state will continue to be prosperous, competitive, and respected. This is the spirit of Kedah Sejahtera, which is not just a slogan, but a collective effort.”
“The role of accredited religious scholars (ulama), imams, and preachers is crucial in guiding society. I wish to remind that every religious discourse, lecture, and sermon delivered must be accurate so as not to cause confusion or disunity within society.”
“It’s important to ensure that unity among the people of this state, in particular, remains strong and preserved.”
Earlier in the day, Sultan Sallehuddin attended a guard of honour parade featuring 103 members and three officers from the Sixth Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment. The parade was led by Major Muhammad Nasrullah Abdullah.
