Sultan of Brunei accorded state welcome at Istana Negara

The Sultan of Brunei was accorded a state welcome at Istana Negara this morning, in conjunction with his three-day state visit to Malaysia.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his consort, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, were greeted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, at 11am.

Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ibrahim, and several Cabinet ministers.

Following the playing of the national anthems of Malaysia and Brunei, and a 21-gun salute, Sultan Hassanal inspected the guard of honour,  mounted by four officers and 103 members of the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Sultan Hassanal later planted a Simpor tree in the palace’s compound.

The Rulers held a meeting to discuss bilateral relations between the two nations.

The Sultan of Brunei will attend a dinner hosted by Anwar at the Malaysian Petroleum Club in Kuala Lumpur tonight.

Al-Sultan Abdullah visited Brunei on a three-day state visit in 2019. It was the first country he visited after being named Malaysia’s 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Brunei was Malaysia’s 26th largest trading partner in 2022, with trade amounting to RM13.22 billion.
