Former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad is hopeful that pneumococcal vaccination will be given due attention now that the Covid-19 curve appears to have been flattened.
The pneumococcal vaccination exercise is slated to start in June and the Health Ministry has to decide fast which vaccine will be best for our children – one that’s effective and proven or a new, untested version that promises cost-saving.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said while there are many competing health priorities within a small budget, listing pneumococcal vaccination (PCV) in the National Immunisation Programme remains the government’s major priority and to uphold its pledge in the Buku Harapan.
The lack of money has been the stumbling block in making pneumococcal vaccination part of the National Immunisation Programme in Malaysia for over a decade. But the Pakatan Harapan government may finally fulfill their pledge to do so.
