This trophy is for Malaysia, says Moto3 Junior World Championship winner Syarifuddin Azman

Syarifuddin ‘Damok’ Azman has dedicated his stunning win in yesterday’s in Barcelona, Spain, to the nation.

The SIC Racing Team rider, who is more popularly known as ‘Damok’, started Race 1 in 10th position, but completed the 16-lap race in 29:32.553s, to finish ahead of Spaniards David Munoz Rodriguez and Jose Antonio Rueda Ruiz.

For this victory, Syarifuddin collected 25 points, which took his tally to 31 points after three rounds.

“This trophy is for Malaysia,” said Syarifuddin, who also thanked his team, family and sponsors for the win.

“The team worked round the clock to give me a perfect machine for the race. I couldn’t have done it without them.

“It is a pity I couldn’t finish the second race as another rider crashed into me. But I’m glad to have won.”

Syarifuddin’s performance, nonetheless, earned praises from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I am so proud and happy when informed that a Malaysian youth, Syarifuddin, has successfully rocked the Catalunya Circuit and emerged victorious at the CEV Moto3 Race yesterday,” Muhyiddin posted on Facebook today.

“Keep striving for more glorious success. Congratulations, Damok!”

Youth and Sports Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican also congratulated Syarifuddin on his win.

MALAYSIAN-BORN JOURNALIST WINS PULITZER PRIZE

Edmund ‘Ed’ Yong, who was born in Malaysia before moving to Britain in 1994, has won a Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting. He has been a British citizen since 2005.

Yong, a science reporter for The Atlantic, won the award for his coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I’ll be splitting the prize money with everyone who worked on my pieces last year – every editor, copy editor, fact-checker, artist, and more. Even when individuals win Pulitzers, their work depends on a community. I want to honour mine,” he said in a tweet.

ONLY THREE AREAS IN KG SUNGAI PENCHALA UNDER EMCO, SAY POLICE

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said only three areas in Kampung Sungai Penchala – Jalan Sungai Penchala 11, Jalan Sungai Penchala 12 and Jalan Sungai Penchala 12(A) – are under Enhanced Movement Control Order.

“There is still some confusion among residents. I can confirm that the areas involved are the three mentioned above,” he said in a statement.

DR ADHAM: NEARLY 1.4 MILLION FULLY VACCINATED

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said 1,357,966 persons have completed the two-dose vaccination under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

He also revealed 3,132,304 others have received one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The five states with the highest number of two-dose vaccinations are Selangor with (174,302), followed by Sarawak (149,227), Perak (131,350), Johor (130,202) and Kuala Lumpur (122,810).

Malaysia recorded 4,949 new Covid-19 cases today.

Coordinating Minister for the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jamaluddin said you can reach out to MySejahtera’s interactive help desk.

“Those who get appointments elsewhere, or even in different states, can make a request via the helpdesk and we will give a (new) appointment to the nearest vaccination centre to you, as quickly as possible,” said Khairy.

This comes after several people have been given appointments some 20km away from their homes, or even in different states.

FIFTH SUSPECT LINKED TO PENANG MAYOR’S HOUSE BREAK-IN DETAINED

Police have nabbed another suspect in connection with the break-in at the official residence of Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang in Jalan Park, Pulau Tikus, on Saturday.

Penang police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said the 32-year-old was arrested in Balik Pulau today. He is the fifth suspect detained in connection with the incident.

Police also seized several items believed to have been stolen from the residence.
