Rafael Benitez only lasted six-and-half months as Everton manager.
The Spaniard, a controversial choice due to his allegiance with Liverpool, was sacked on Sunday after a run that saw Everton only win once in 13 attempts.
Some bookmakers have made Derby boss Wayne Rooney the favourite to be the new manager with his former England teammate Frank Lampard second choice.
Others touted for the job are Belgium manager Roberto Martinez and former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac.
Some feel Rooney “gets the club” and can help Everton bounce back.
However, not everyone is convinced.
Everton Supporters Club of Malaysia president, Lynn Choo, said Rooney and Lampard are untested.
“I do not know whom Everton should hire any more. We have tried all sorts, and it did not seem to work,” said Choo.
“Whoever comes in needs time. Will the fans give the support? We do not have a strong squad to pull it off. We are in no man’s land.”
She is happy another Everton legend, Duncan Ferguson, would be in charge of tomorrow’s match against Aston Villa (8.30pm) as he has been a long-time assistant.
“But he is not a long-term solution. I am not particularly fond of getting club legends to manage if they have not learnt their trade elsewhere,” added Choo.
Julian Jackson agreed with Choo that Rooney needs time but felt Ferguson deserves a shot as he has been part of Everton’s coaching staff since 2014.
The Scottish international was the interim manager in 2019 following Marco Silva’s sacking and was unbeaten in four games – one win and three draws.
“As much as I like and respect Rooney as a player, he has not done enough to show he deserves it yet,” said Jackson.
“He struggled (with Derby) at the end of last year and stayed up by the skin of his teeth. This year the pressure was not on, so they are doing well.
“The pressure at Everton will be immense. It is too early for Rooney to get a big job like Everton. I feel the same with Lampard.
“Ferguson deserves his shot more (than Rooney) as he has way more experience despite not being a No. 1 manager.
“Although it would be interesting to see Kovac in charge.”
A third Everton fan, Izhar Shazly Pakhorarazi, said: “No to Lamps (Lampard), and it is too soon for Wazza (Rooney).
“Rooney needs more time to prove himself at Derby before becoming Everton manager.”
