Kuala Lumpur-based news website Twentytwo13 is now Sport Integrity Global Alliance’s (SIGA) permanent media partner.
It is among the pioneering media organisations committed to working towards the reform of the sports industry and the worldwide implementation of the SIGA universal standards on sport integrity.
Twentytwo13 is also the first media organisation from Southeast Asia to team up with SIGA to champion sport governance and integrity.
After covering SIGA’s Sport Integrity Week 2021 recently, the synergies between the world body and Twentytwo13’s approach to journalism became more evident, leading to this collaboration.
Speaking about the partnership, SIGA global chief executive officer, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros said: “The responsibility of checking facts, and the power to ask questions, are the true pillars of democracy.”
“That is why journalists are among the fiercest enemies of all criminal activity. Their role is essential for everyone who wants to live in a fair world, and that is why SIGA will always support investigative journalism and independent media organisations.
“Being a permanent SIGA Media Partner is, at this time, a chance to pioneer the most needed reform in sports,” he added.
Haresh Deol, editor and co-founder of Twentytwo13 explained the reasons for continuing its partnership with SIGA on a permanent basis.
“Twentytwo13 strongly believes in integrity, and the offer to be SIGA’s permanent media partner is an acknowledgement of our work. We are humbled by the gesture.
“This will further motivate the team at Twentytwo13 to put forward people’s perspectives while breaking boundaries. Through this partnership, we will continue to champion integrity in sports.”
Twentytwo13 will join UK-based news website Inside World Football, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), and Portuguese CNID (National Club of Sports Press) inside SIGA’s sphere.
