Virus-Immune Politicians (VIPs) need common sense more than Covid-19 vaccine

The first batch of the Covid-19 vaccine is expected to arrive in Malaysia as scheduled in the first quarter of 2021. Thankfully, Pos Layu (sic) is not handling the shipment.

Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has volunteered to be the first to test the vaccine.

His “unselfish” act has not gone down well with some Malaysians who mocked him for being afraid of the coronavirus.

A joke has been going round the past two months about how politicians should be administered the vaccine to see if they survive. Only then should others be inoculated.

But here is this brave politician who is being run down for volunteering to do just that. Okay, I get it. That was a joke.

I’m not defending Bung in any way because I don’t consider politicians to be frontliners who should be given priority.

He may qualify age-wise but he’d do better with a mask over his mouth at all times.

My question: Why would Bung or any other politician want to be the first to try out the vaccine?

There is no need to waste everyone’s time, effort and money. Politicians have already proven time and again they have absolute immunity against the coronavirus by defiantly having gatherings without adhering to procedures or rules.

Look ma, no sniffles or loss of taste. I’m still strong like an ox.

Their invincibility was put to test in the Sabah state elections in September. They supposedly mingled with the ordinary folk for days on end in the Land Below The Wind but returned to the peninsula unscathed.

I’m, however, baffled how they rubbed shoulders with anyone when they were mostly safe on stage making hate speeches about each other. I must apologise then as they did practise some sort of social distancing (for their own safety, not the people’s).

The quest for power makes people behave in strange ways.

Heck! These VIPs (Virus-Immune Politicians) actually have double immunity – even the law cannot touch them. We all know that, don’t we?

This invincible lot could teach Superman a trick or two on how to deal with kryptonite.

If anything, the people need protection against politicians but I doubt scientists will come up with such a vaccine anytime soon.

So Bung and the rest of you YBs, please step aside and let the more deserving ones get the first dose of the vaccine.

Instead of the vaccine, inject some common sense into yourselves and follow the rules. Set the example by not making saliva drops in the air a trend during the pandemic.

To everyone else, especially working people: I want to declare that I fully support mandatory (and free) VAC-cin-ATIONS. I am sure you do, too.
