Want to shape future of AI in Malaysia? Key roles in National AI Office now open

Malaysia’s National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) will be launched next month. Qualified individuals are invited to apply for key leadership roles in NAIO.

According to a statement by the Digital Ministry, NAIO will serve as the central authority to advance Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) agenda and “position the country as a key influencer in the regional digital landscape.”

During its setup and developmental stage, NAIO will be incubated within MyDIGITAL Corporation, an agency under the ministry.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said NAIO will be instrumental in shaping Malaysia’s AI landscape, driving innovations that benefit the rakyat, the government, and industries.

“By promoting cross-sector collaboration, NAIO will position Malaysia at the forefront of AI development and adoption, both nationally and regionally,” added Gobind.

“AI is a critical enabler for Malaysia’s future, and we are looking for dynamic leaders who are ready to contribute to national and regional progress,” he added.

Among the openings for key positions are:

● Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
● Director, AI Policy Lab
● Director, AI Innovation Exchange

The statement added that the establishment of NAIO signals Malaysia’s strategic push to harness the transformative power of AI – driving initiatives that enhance the country’s AI capabilities, strengthen the digital economy, and support sustainable development.

The Digital Ministry, through NAIO, aims to accelerate initiatives to help achieve the government’s key outcomes related to AI over the next 12 months. These include the completion of the AI Technology Action Plan (2026-2030), the establishment of a regulatory framework to increase the adoption of ethical and sustainable AI technology, and expediting AI adoption in key sectors nationwide.

The vacancies for the positions were advertised on Sept 30. Deadline for applications is Oct 11.
