A 70-year-old woman was charged with forgery at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today.
The accused, Ewe Saw Lee, was charged with committing the offence against Andrew Kam Tai Yeow at RHB Bank, KLCC, Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, on April 25, 2018.
Ewe had allegedly falsified a “full and final settlement of loan” document dated April 25, 2018, to support a claim that Kam, 63, had received a loan from her amounting to RM1.5 million since 2013 and that Kam had agreed to pay an additional RM1 million as compensation for the ‘loss of time’.
Ewe is alleged to have falsified the document by forging Kam’s signature.
She claimed trial to the charge under Section 465 of the Penal Code.
“I want to be tried in court; I am not guilty,” said Ewe, who was clad in a white blouse and blue hoodie and wore a face mask.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal proposed bail to be set at RM50,000.
However, the accused’s lawyer requested a lower sum, saying that the accused was a senior citizen and had been diagnosed with stage 3A cancer.
Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamed Saim set bail at RM3,000. If found guilty, the accused can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
