Datuk Worawi Makudi, who is running for the upcoming FA of Thailand elections, will be in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning as he plans to hand “explosive news” to Asian Football Confederation officials in Kuala Lumpur.
He has also called for a press conference at a hotel in Petaling Jaya at 3.30pm.
AFC secretary-general Datuk Windsor Paul John is aware of Worawi’s visit to the regional body’s headquarters in Bukit Jalil but is unclear of the former FAT president’s intentions.
“I will not be meeting him. I’m unsure why he will be in Kuala Lumpur but I presume it could be related to the upcoming FAT elections,” said Windsor.
“He is free to visit the department related to any of his queries.”
Those in the know say Worawi has “damning information regarding certain individuals” and plan to make public the allegations during the press conference after his meeting at AFC.
It is understood Worawi hopes for better press coverage in Kuala Lumpur compared to Bangkok.
Worawi will challenge FAT president Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang and Nakhon Sawan MP Pinyo Niroj of the ruling Palang Pracharat Party for the top post in the Feb 12 elections at Al Meroz Hotel in Bangkok.
The winner will lead FAT for the next four years.
Worawi served as FAT president from 2007-2015 but could not contest in the 2016 elections after he was suspended by Fifa.
The former Fifa executive committee member was suspended for five years from all football-related activities in October 2015 following his conviction for forgery in a Thai court and for failing to cooperate with a Fifa investigation.
Worawi’s ban, however, was cut by 18 months in 2018 following his appeal to the world body’s appeals committee.
He was cleared by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last year of an ethics breach related to forgery and falsification of documents.
