KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu remains satisfied with the preparations by Selangor as host of the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma), despite the various challenges and logistical constraints that may arise during the multi-sport event that officially begins today.
Terengganu contingent deputy Chef de Mission, Zuraida Md Noor, said the state understood the challenges faced by the host and believed Selangor had done its best to ensure all contingents could compete smoothly.
“Based on the feedback we have received, we understand the situation and believe the host has done everything possible to ensure that all participating state contingents can compete without major problems, particularly when it comes to the competition venues,” said Zuraida.
“Any challenges faced by the host as the organiser will also have an impact on us and the other state contingents. This edition also presents an additional challenge as there is no centralised athletes’ village, requiring us to make careful arrangements for logistics and other aspects of team management.
“However, we have addressed the situation as best as we can and are prepared to compete without putting unnecessary pressure on the athletes.”
She said this at a recent appreciation dinner for the state’s rugby teams earlier this week.
Zuraida said the support provided by various parties, including government agencies appointed to assist the respective teams, had also strengthened Terengganu’s preparations for the Games.
She added that the state’s sports governing bodies had likewise played an important role by providing assistance within their respective capacities.
For the 22nd edition of the national games, Terengganu will compete in 35 of the 37 sports on the programme, with a contingent of 799 athletes and team officials.
The contingent has set an initial target of winning at least 61 gold medals, with the objective of finishing among the top three states in the overall medal standings.
At the previous edition in Sarawak in 2024, Terengganu finished fifth overall after securing 41 gold, 36 silver, and 47 bronze medals.
