KUALA LUMPUR: More eateries are complying with halal regulations in Malaysia, assuring the country’s majority Muslim consumers that the food served conforms to their religious beliefs.
One such eatery is local bakery brand The Baker’s Son, which announced the official halal certification of its Central Kitchen by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) on Aug 26 at the bakery’s outlet in Sunway Geo.
“Halal goes beyond the ingredients used in a product. It is about having a robust system that safeguards halal requirements throughout the entire business operation, from ingredient sourcing and handling to production and operational controls,” said Hanisofian Alias, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC).
Hanisofian said HDC was pleased to support The Baker’s Son throughout its halal certification journey, providing guidance and assistance to meet ongoing halal standards.
“The certification of its Central Kitchen shows the company’s commitment to embedding halal assurance into its business operations, further strengthening consumer confidence and demonstrating that halal practices can be an integral part of sustainable business growth,” he added.
While The Baker’s Son, the bakery brand within Jaya Grocer stores, has always been committed to using halal ingredients in its products, the official certification of its Central Kitchen by Jakim strengthens its commitment to quality, cleanliness, food safety and consumer confidence.
“Growing up, I saw first-hand the passion and dedication my father put into baking, and that experience stayed with me,” said Peter Tan, Head Baker of The Baker’s Son.
“When I established The Baker’s Son in 2009, I wanted to carry that same passion forward. Receiving our official halal certification is a meaningful milestone because it represents not only how far the brand has come, but also the collective effort of everyone behind it,” Tan said.
The certification journey took nine months, reflecting the team’s efforts to meet the required halal standards across its Central Kitchen operations.
The Central Kitchen supplies freshly baked products to more than 60 outlets across Malaysia, strengthening halal assurance across the brand’s growing network.
The certification process involved a comprehensive review covering ingredient sourcing and verification, supplier requirements, production processes, hygiene and sanitation, food safety, documentation and compliance. It brought together the collective efforts of the production, quality assurance and operations teams, together with its suppliers.
