Malaysia Stadium Corporation chairman to probe alleged resale of staff’s complimentary concert tickets

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) chairman Dr Helmy Haja Mydin has pledged to investigate allegations that several staff members sold complimentary concert tickets.

Twentytwo13 learnt that a report had been lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged resale of complimentary tickets. However, the anti-graft body advised the complainant to refer the matter to the Youth and Sports Ministry’s integrity unit, as MSC is an agency under the ministry.

Dr Helmy said he was shocked by the allegations.

“I’m shocked if it is true, and I will launch an immediate investigation to find out whether these are false allegations or whether someone has indeed been profiting from the sale of complimentary tickets,” he told Twentytwo13.

“These tickets are meant for us to use or to pass on to relevant parties. MSC is not supposed to sell them.”

At least two concert promoters told Twentytwo13 that it was common practice to provide MSC with between 100 and 300 complimentary tickets for each event, depending on the venue.

“If an event is held at the Unifi Arena, we usually provide 100 complimentary tickets and passes to the hospitality suites,” said a promoter, who requested anonymity.

“If we organise an event at the TM National Stadium, that figure can go up to 300 tickets.

“We don’t mind giving out complimentary tickets, but our contract stipulates that they are not for resale.”

Documents sighted by Twentytwo13 show that a promoter lodged an online complaint with MACC on Sept 28 over the alleged resale of complimentary tickets. The complaint cited the following incidents during a recent concert:

  • Complimentary tickets were sold to members of the public.
  • A payment of RM200 was made under the name of someone who was not an MSC staff member, with the concert’s name cited as the payment reference.
  • Wristband collection for entry into the stadium was handled by another MSC staff member.

In its reply on Oct 14, MACC advised the complainant to refer the matter to the Youth and Sports Ministry’s integrity unit.

Dr Helmy was appointed MSC chairman on March 31, but his appointment was only made public on April 23. He replaced Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, who was appointed in March 2025.

On June 18, MSC chief executive officer Iliyas Jamil claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to seven graft charges involving more than RM1 million. The charges relate to a tender for upgrading the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
