Aeon Co. (M) Bhd says its racks are fully stocked and that there’s enough supply to go around.
Yesterday, Twentytwo13 reported that last weekend’s floods in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur had disrupted logistics and the supply chain, resulting in empty shelves at several hypermarkets and convenience stores in the Klang Valley.
The lack of food items and basic necessities was also exacerbated by the fact that corporations, non-governmental organisations and donors, had purchased these items in bulk, to help the displaced flood victims.
Manpower was also an issue, as many workers were cut off by the inundated roads.
“We have been working alongside the various communities to support the flood victims. Their needs have been prioritised, and we have been sending out supplies by the lorry loads,” said Aeon’s chief merchandising and marketing officer, Low Ngai Yuen.
“Additionally, there was a temporary disruption in delivery services from the suppliers to our stores, as some of them were directly affected by the floods.
“These are all short-term issues. However, as a quick follow-up, we have addressed all our logistical needs, and our shelves are now back to their usual level of stocks.”
Low added there was enough supply to go around, and that it was the company’s “duty to ensure that”.
