Ahmad Faizal downplays DPM talk, tells Puad Zarkashi to help Baling flood victims instead

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is clearly disinterested in talks of him being supposedly nominated as the deputy prime minister.

This comes following claims by Umno Supreme Council member, Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi, that Bersatu president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was lobbying for Ahmad Faizal to be appointed as the No. 2 in Putrajaya. Muhyiddin met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently.

“Puad and I are both elected representatives. Many Malaysians are affected by the spiralling cost of living and are struggling financially. We both should focus on working with the government to ease the rakyat’s burden,” Ahmad Faizal told Twentytwo13.

“Let’s not talk about the topics discussed between these two men (Muhyiddin and Ismail Sabri) in private, and speculate.”

“I’m trying to get more volunteers to help (the flood victims) in Baling. Maybe Puad can help,” Ahmad Faizal added.

Ahmad Faizal, who is currently in Ipoh, earlier today, called on youths in the Baling district in the northern state of Kedah, to be a part of the Baling Rakan Muda Volunteer Squad. He said they could do so by registering at https://forms.gle/Exf9Z52XGW2zgbmC6, or call 018-4689767 for more information.

Four villages in the district – Kampung Iboi, Kampung Tanjung Luas, Kampung Sedim and Kampung Jernang – were hit by floods following a downpour on Monday. More than 300 flood victims were evacuated.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had called for areas critically affected by the floods to be declared as Level I or II emergency response to speed up operations and assistance by state and federal agencies.

Puad, on Monday, had said that Malaysia would plunge into deeper political turmoil if Ahmad Faizal was picked as Bersatu’s choice for deputy prime minister, instead of Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Bersatu also wants someone from its party to replace Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin as Plantation Industries and Commodities minister after she quit Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
