As EMCO ends in Selangor today, here’s a reminder of what’s allowed, and what’s not

The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in 34 sub-districts in Selangor ends today.

As such, it’s back to Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) for these localities.

Here’s a reminder of what can and cannot be done under Phase 1 of the NRP.

  • Interstate and inter-district travel are still prohibited.
  • Only two people from each household can leave their homes to buy basic essentials within a 10km radius from their homes. During the EMCO, only one person could leave the house.
  • Three people, including the patient, can seek medical treatment within a 10km radius from their homes.
  • Children below 12 are not allowed in public areas except during an emergency, for medical purposes, education or to exercise.
  • Restaurants can now open from 6am till 10pm. In the past, those operating in EMCO areas could only operate until 8pm. The no dine-in rule still applies.
  • You can now go for a walk, jog, or exercise in your neighbourhood between 7am and 8pm. No contact sports allowed. Gymnasiums to remain closed. During the EMCO, people were prohibited from exercising outdoors.
  • No staycations during Phase 1 of the NRP as hotels are for quarantine purposes, and not for tourism.
  • Supermarkets, hypermarkets, departmental stores, workshops, opticians and hardware shops are now allowed to operate under Phase 1.
  • Spas, pubs, and any form of tourism, are still not allowed to operate during this period.

Phase 2 of the NRP will be implemented once:

  • The daily Covid-19 cases fall below 4,000.
  • Intensive care unit (ICU) bed usage returns to a moderate level.
  • Ten per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccines.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all the states could go to Phase 2 by early next month once all three main indicators under the National Recovery Plan are achieved.

Malaysia today recorded 12,541 new Covid-19 cases.
