The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed national shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been diagnosed with early stage nose cancer.
In a statement issued today, BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria said the former world number one is currently seeking treatment in Taiwan.
“I am pleased to inform you that he (Chong Wei) is responding well to his treatment and is currently resting and recuperating among family and close friends,” said Norza.
“We urge everyone to respect his privacy and that of his family.”
Norza said the national body is in constant contact with the badminton player and “will offer any support we can to our legend.”
BAM had in July announced that Chong Wei will not compete in the World Championships in Nanjing, China and 18th Asian Games in Indonesia due to “health issues”.
In a statement then, the national body said Chong Wei was suffering from respiratory related disorder.
