Indonesian coach Indra Wijaya is looking for a job, but he is unlikely to be rehired by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
Indra, who joined BAM in 2016 after a coaching stint in South Korea, walked out of the national body in February to coach Lee Zii Jia, when the latter left the national stable to be an independent shuttler.
Yesterday, Twentytwo13 broke the news that Indra and Lee are parting ways.
However, those within BAM feel there is no point in hiring something that “walked out on us” and now “needs a job”.
“Why should we take him back? There are no plans to hire Indra,” said a BAM official who requested anonymity.
“We heard he could join his brother.”
Indra’s brother, Candra, is the founder of the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Centre and Candra Wijaya Badminton Club.
The BAM official also said the national body would begin its evaluation exercise for all national players, including women’s singles, S. Kisona, next month.
The 24-year-old, who won the 2019 SEA Games gold medal, has been struggling for form over the past two years.
She is ranked 58th in the world, the second-highest Malaysian on the Badminton World Federation list.
Two-time world junior champion Goh Jin Wei is ranked No 39.
