Chef On Wheels rolls out Sponsor A Meal programme for MCO 3.0

Following the success of its Sponsor A Meal (SAM) programme during the initial Movement Control Order (MCO), Chef On Wheels is introducing a new version for  MCO 3.0.

Seet Wai Song, who operates the business with his wife Christine Chua, said the new SAM programme will cost donors RM450 for 50 meal boxes. That works out to RM9 for a nutritious, well-balanced meal, including dessert.

The caterers will cook and distribute the meals to the donors’ venue of choice.

“With MCO 3.0 enforced, let’s spare a thought for the needy – the homeless, those in the B40 and even the frontliners who have been working tirelessly to help the country during this pandemic,” said Seet.

“For RM450, we will cook and distribute 50 meal boxes to the donors or to an institution of their choice.”

He added as a gesture of thanks, each donor would receive Chef On Wheels’ bread and spread gift set, which is baked in-house.

Last year, SAM helped feed about 400 frontliners, such as nurses, law enforcement officers as well as university students and the homeless, each day.

“The first SAM programme was a huge success. We have not stopped the initiative but now with the third MCO, have come up with a modified package,” said Seet, who was recently in Johor Bahru where he did some work to help the B40 on behalf of the Red Crescent and a sponsor.

“We did several other projects during the festive seasons throughout the year as well. Many had wanted to help the needy and some asked us to help.

“Times are bad for everyone, but those who can afford it, pay it forward by helping the less fortunate.”

Those who want to help sponsor meals can contact Seet at https://wa.me/+60123988907 or via the company’s Facebook page.

Anyway, today is the 431st day since the start of the original MCO and this is the 49th weekly edition of ‘The MCO Diaries’.

ONE IN 70 HAD, OR IS SUFFERING FROM, COVID-19

If this week’s horrifying Covid-19 numbers don’t shock you, then nothing will.

As of yesterday, there have been 498,795 reported cases of the coronavirus in the country, an increase of 36,605 from the previous week.

We will exceed half a million cases later today, which means nearly one in 70 people in our country of 32.7 million – excluding illegal immigrants – has had, or is suffering, from Covid-19.

Think about that the next time you venture outside or attend a gathering.

That figure included the daily Covid-19 cases over the past three days – Wednesday (6,075), Thursday (6,806) and yesterday (6,493) – when we surpassed the 6,000 threshold.

Expect it to get worse in the coming days.

With cases piling up, the nation is fast running out of beds in intensive care units. The number of deaths has shot through the roof with a record 327 in the past seven days, including a high 59 on Thursday.

Six of the last seven days saw more single day deaths than the previous tally of 39 on May 12.

We passed the 2,000 fatalities mark on Wednesday. Until yesterday, there have been 2,149 deaths.

On the recovery front, 25,643 patients were declared free of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cured to 444,540 or 89.12 per cent.

Worldwide, there are now 165.9 million cases and 3.4 million deaths.

Here’s a good description of what we shouldn’t be doing.

IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY

Twentytwo13 turns three today. It has been a fun ride despite the pandemic as we have broken boundaries while promoting people’s perspectives.

Several friends celebrated the occasion by delivering food to the Twentytwo13 office, including a mouth-watering walnut cheesecake and some divine rendang and pulut kuning.

If you feel like ordering some delicious Perak-inspired food, do give Mayel’s rendang – run by former photographer Rosella Ismail – a try.

UNDERSTAND NOW?

BACK TO ONLINE BOOT CAMP

After more than three months, I have resumed online boot camp.

Led by Darren Wong and three other coaches from Puchong USJ Fit Club, I will be sweating it out four times a week for the next four weeks.

The first class was on Monday and I’m already suffering! The best thing about the class is that you don’t need a big space to work out.

PREPARING FOR LOCKDOWN

A friend of mine said he is prepared for a full lockdown and sent me this picture. Great idea but Wong would kill me if I had the same snacks!

HEALTHY FOOD AND DESSERTS

If you are looking for some tasty but low-calorie dishes, try these 15 recipes from myfitnesspal.com.

Amazingly, the recipes include pizzas, pancakes, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate peanut buttercups!

COV-IDIOT WIND

The great Bob Dylan turns 80 on Monday. Among his vast catalogue of songs, this one is dedicated to all Covidiots.

Happy birthday Robert Allen Zimmerman, and here’s to many more celebrations.
