KUALA LUMPUR: In the world of dentistry, few names shine as brightly as Dr Praveen Gill. Dynamic yet grounded, she has become an inspiration not only to her patients but also to the wider Malaysian community.
Her recent triumph at the inaugural Asean Dentistry Awards, where she clinched two first-place titles, has placed her firmly on the map as a role model for women across the nation and the region.
Dr Praveen’s journey began at Universiti Malaya, where she graduated as a dentist in 2005. Driven by a desire to excel, she pursued further studies in London, specialising in orthodontics – the branch of dentistry focused on straightening teeth and correcting bites.
At the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute, University College London, she graduated with distinction. Her academic excellence was further recognised when she received a gold medal from the Royal College of Surgeons for outstanding performance in the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) Part 1 examination, a key milestone in the field.
By 2012, she was officially admitted as a specialist orthodontist, completing her Master of Orthodontics through the Royal College of Surgeons.
With more than 13 years of experience, Dr Praveen has transformed countless smiles and improved lives through her work. Her dedication to smile aesthetics, coupled with her commitment to combining advanced technology with patient-centred care, has earned her a reputation as one of Malaysia’s most respected orthodontists. Today, she serves patients at Pantai Hospital and several clinics in Kuala Lumpur, delivering cutting-edge treatments in interceptive, surgical and digital orthodontics.
Her determination and grit bore fruit at the Asean Dentistry Awards, where she won first place for Orthodontic Adult Fixed Appliance and first place for Orthodontics with Aligners for Children and Teenagers.
The recognition was no small feat. The awards drew nominees from 22 countries, including Japan and Taiwan, making her victory all the more remarkable. For Dr Praveen, the win was not merely personal – it was a proud moment for Malaysia.
“I felt honoured and incredibly grateful to make Malaysia proud,” she said.

As the first Malaysian Sikh woman to win at the awards, she has broken barriers and demonstrated what determination, skill and humility can achieve.
