The first day of the new year is always special. It sets the tone for the rest of the year.
For almost 20 years now, I have always spent New Year’s Eve and the next day with the family – a routine I really enjoyed. There was no difference this year.
The early morning visit to the Murugan temple in Batu Caves, Selangor, was a must, as the family climbed the steep 272 steps to pay obeisance to Lord Muruga, seeking blessings of good health and wellbeing. It was a great way to start the day, a spiritually uplifting and calorie-burning family activity!
With a light breakfast done and a change in attire, suited and booted, it was off on Khaleesi, my trusty beast (motorcycle), heading to the hospital for the review of my warded patients. There is really no respite from one’s responsibility or duty when you practice the art of medicine. It is what it is.
Profession dutifully delivered, the next agenda was planning the passion – a short 200km flick of the wrist. Opening of the throttle to attack the twisties was soulful. Then, it was homeward bound to spend the rest of the day with the family.
Family, profession, and passion accomplished with great aplomb. A beautiful start to the year 2025. Life moves fast. The present moment, it’s all we ever truly have. Learning to slow down, feel, and appreciate it… to be there in the moment. It changes everything.
I’ve spent so long chasing the next thing, but now I’m learning to enjoy the journey. When you connect with the now, you realise that even in the smallest moments, there’s something beautiful waiting for you.
I pray for all to have good health, wealth, joy, and happiness for the year ahead. Wake up early, have your coffee, go for a long ride, eat good food, wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, listen to your favourite music, and spend time with family and friends.
Create these small moments that make you fall in love with your life.
