SUBANG JAYA: The government is committed to safeguarding the creative industry in the age of artificial intelligence, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo’s political secretary, Michelle Ng.

Speaking at the launch of World Fever, a football-inspired anthem by singer-songwriter Justin Lewis, better known as JLewis, Ng said the government’s approach to the creative sector is shaped by an appreciation of the value of original artistic expression.

Ng revealed that Gobind, a lawyer by profession, was once “a DJ in a previous chapter of his life”, giving him an understanding of the importance of supporting creative talent.

Her remarks came as she highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in the creative industries while stressing that technology should complement, rather than replace, human creativity.

“There is nothing quite like originality. While AI can assist with various tasks, it still requires creative minds to provide direction, inspiration and purpose,” said Ng, who is also the Subang Jaya assemblywoman.

“When I saw what the directors had come up with, and learnt that the production had been undertaken through traditional methods, it was especially meaningful. To make it even more special, the music video was shot around Subang Jaya.”

Ng added that the Digital Ministry’s work involves understanding the rapidly evolving capabilities of AI, particularly in creative fields.

“However, no machine can truly replicate the creativity, vision and artistic instinct that artists bring to their work,” she said.

“Therefore, we want to ensure that our policies continue to safeguard the creative industry so that people like Justin can thrive and continue the excellent work that he and his team do.”

Ng was the guest of honour at the launch of World Fever, which seeks to capture the excitement, passion and unity associated with the world’s biggest football tournament, currently being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Although the song was created as a tribute to the global football tournament, copyright considerations meant that neither FIFA nor the World Cup could be referenced directly.

Instead, World Fever focuses on the emotions and shared experiences that football generates among supporters worldwide.

Among those who attended the launch at La Cocina Sky View were Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and Professor Dr Victor Gonzales, while the venue came alive with performances by dancers from the Afro-Latin Community of Malaysia.
