There was good news for those in Petaling Jaya Old Town as the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) which came into effect on May 10, ended at midnight.
Bukit Gasing Assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran and folks in the neighbourhood had also sponsored a ‘buka puasa’ meal for the frontliners before the order was lifted. Bless them.
Separately, according to theceomagazine.com, Malaysia is among the 10 best countries to invest in post-Covid.
With many neighbourhood businesses closing shop, hopefully, this gives our economy a big shot in the arm.
Here’s how Day 65 of MCO unfolded.
7.30am: STILL GROWING – Worldwide cases surpass five million with just over 330,000 deaths.
8.34pm: NO MONKEYING AROUND – Two studies on monkeys, published in the journal Science, offer hope humans can develop protective immunity to the coronavirus.
9.19am: SHORT-CUT – There was a long queue getting out of Subang on the way to work. The police were checking to see if anyone was trying to go out of the state near the toll plaza leading to Negeri Sembilan. Luckily there is a lane for frontliners and media. Got through after showing my press tag. The cop who stopped me was very pleasant and advised me against travelling unnecessarily. Thank you.
10.22am: BIG BLOW – South Korea’s FC Seoul are fined a record 100 million won (RM353,306) for using sex dolls to fill seats at a match held behind closed doors, with K-League officials saying the football club had “deeply humiliated women fans”.
12.03pm: COMPASSION –New Zealander Christine Archer has been reunited with her dying sister Gail Baker in Australia after getting exemption from pandemic travel restrictions on compassionate grounds. Australia had denied Archer permission to fly from New Zealand four times before her story attracted media attention.
1.13pm: MISSTEP? – Tried logging in to selangkah.my via Facebook. At the first shop, the line was bad while at Burger King, this message appeared.
Used WeChat and had no problem. Is Facebook blocking access to selangkah.my?
1.26pm: FUNNY LOOKS – Didn’t want to dine in so ate my burger in the car. Had some funny stares from passers-by!
2pm: STOP IT! – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says interstate travel has been banned with immediate effect after 2,412 vehicles were told to turn back at roadblocks yesterday. Those trying to sneak back to their hometowns will now be compounded on the spot.
Non-Muslim places of worship in green zones can open from June 10 for one to two days a week. Those above 70 and below 12 are not allowed in.
It is only for Malaysian citizens and there must not be more than 30 people at any one time, subject to the size of the church, temple or gurdwara. Procedures for marriages are pending.
3.38pm: NO MINGLING – All government functions until the end of October have been cancelled until further notice due to Covid-19.
4.45pm: UNDER CONTROL – Fatalities remain at 114 with no deaths for the second day running. There are 50 new cases, taking the tally to 7,059 while 90 patients were discharged, meaning 5,796 have been cured.
