Parking remains a big problem at most public hospitals, especially in the Klang Valley.
And Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is well aware of it.
In fact, Khairy saw first-hand how vehicles were lined up on both sides of the road just outside Hospital Serdang, when he visited the hospital for the launch of the national-level World Hearing Day, this morning.
“Parking is a big issue. Since I was appointed Health Minister, I’ve received many complaints about parking (at hospitals),” said Khairy.
“There were proposals for multi-storey parking in the past. The ministry will look into this again.
“I was surprised … There were so many vehicles parked along the roadside at Serdang Hospital.”
Those who frequent Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Selayang, and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang, are often left frustrated by the lack of parking bays, forcing them to either double park, or park their vehicles along the main roads, resulting in massive congestion in the area.
Those visiting Hospital Serdang have been given the option of parking at the parking bay just outside the main entrance to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), located about 1km away. The hospital also provides a shuttle to ferry visitors from the parking lot to the hospital.
In 2018, Twentytwo13 highlighted the parking woes at Serdang Hospital, despite the alternative parking area provided near MAEPS.

Yet, many continue to park along the main road leading to the hospital, often causing congestion on both sides of the road, not to mention the risk of being summoned by the authorities.
