Why is President Donald Trump doing all he can to help Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?
Trump has called Netanyahu a “great hero” and urged that all corruption charges against him be dropped, or that President Isaac Herzog issue a pardon.
The Trump administration also imposed sanctions on judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Last month, the US State Department warned foreign governments not to participate in a United Nations-sponsored conference on the two-state resolution and recognising the Palestinians’ right to a state. Participating, it said, would incur US displeasure for going against American interests.
America routinely exercises its veto power against all Security Council resolutions condemning Israel’s actions, including its apartheid policies and the establishment of illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.
The US’ unequivocal support has even extended to attacking sovereign countries. The recent unprovoked Israeli assault on Iran’s military and nuclear facilities received direct support from the United States (and Britain), which provided logistics, intelligence, armaments, pilots and fighter jets.
Britain and France backed the attack, repeating the overused mantra that Israel has the right to defend itself.
One reason behind these decisions is the influence of powerful pro-Israel lobbying groups, most notably the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which plays a significant role in shaping domestic and foreign policy. AIPAC exerts considerable sway over Congress, the House of Representatives, numerous government agencies, and influential sectors such as the media, entertainment, banking and finance.
AIPAC has subverted the power of the American people, who voted for a government to serve them, not a foreign country.
The catchword is antisemitism. Anything critical of Israel or supportive of Palestine is labelled antisemitic and becomes verboten in America.
You can criticise the government, religion or even Jesus Christ within the context of freedom of expression. However, any criticism of Jews is often considered off-limits.
The media seldom uses words like genocide, massacre or slaughter to describe Israel’s killings and bombings of Gaza. Instead, they frame Israel’s actions as self-defence against aggression, rather than attacks that kill innocent civilians.
It is a misnomer to refer to Israel’s military as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) when, in reality, it often acts as a ruthless force targeting civilians, yet becomes cautious when facing real combat troops.
Trump has taken aggressive action against Ivy League institutions such as Harvard and Columbia for supposedly not curbing antisemitic protests or for supporting the Palestinian cause.
He has withheld federal grants and pressured universities to restructure their departments and curricula to align with his political ideology of unwavering support for the Zionist agenda.
He has barred Harvard from enrolling foreign students and revoked the visas of existing ones because the university refused to bow to his demands. Foreign students intending to study in the US now have their social media screened for anti-American content (read: antisemitic).
For the US, Jews can do no wrong. It continues to provide unquestioning support for Zionist policies, often downplaying or obscuring its role in controversial actions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed America was not involved in Netanyahu’s unilateral attack on Iran, but Trump later admitted he was briefed about it.
The coup de grâce of US submission came when America attacked Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz, directly entering the conflict and illegally striking a sovereign country without provocation.
Having realised the folly and the disaster of attacking Iran, Trump quickly announced that it was a one-off strike and called for a ceasefire.
Do not be fooled by this. It was not a genuine desire for peace but an attempt to save Israel from being battered by Iranian missiles. Today, Tel Aviv and Haifa resemble the devastation seen in Gaza.
It is time the American people woke up from their stupor, fed by Zionist propaganda that supporting Israel protects the US from attacks by so-called rogue regimes like Iran.
They need to realise they must free themselves from the shackles of Israeli propaganda and subterfuge, and regain control of their country by outlawing AIPAC and removing the Zionist politicians running their government.
