Lawlessness and hypocrisy of the Western powers

The narrative that Israel has a “right to defend itself” has been repeated so often, it has become dogma, regardless of context. Meanwhile, the rights of Palestinians and other targeted nations are ignored or erased, writes Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamed Ghouse Nasuruddin.

Lawlessness and hypocrisy of the Western powers

The new normal in geopolitics is captured by these keywords: lawlessness, hypocrisy, impunity, trickery and lies, might is right, treachery, thuggery, and gangsterism.

The proponents of these elements are the Western powers – specifically the United States, Britain, the European Union – and above all, the settler colony of Israel.

Their lawlessness and hypocrisy are reflected in their responses to geopolitical events, especially in the Middle East and the Ukraine conflict.

Blatant lawlessness was on full display in the Iran-Israel-America conflict. Israel attacked Iran without provocation, using the well-worn lie that Iran was just weeks away from developing a nuclear weapon – a line it had been repeating since 1995.

Under international law, Iran exercised its right to defend itself and retaliated against Israel’s illegal assault on its sovereignty. Israel’s attack came while Iran was still at the negotiating table with the United States. President Donald Trump misled the Iranians into thinking that discussions would continue and lead to a peaceful resolution. His trickery and lies were abominable and unbefitting of a head of state.

The European Union and Britain revealed their hypocrisy and prejudice in their response to the conflict. Instead of condemning Israel for its unprovoked strike on a sovereign nation, they blamed Iran for retaliating in self-defence. They kept regurgitating the illogical mantra that “Israel has the right to defend itself”, painting it as the victim and Iran the aggressor.

Adding insult to injury, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated: “This is the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us. We are also victims of this regime. This mullah regime has brought death and destruction to the world.” Such a response is blatantly hypocritical, racist, and absurd.

The lies, propaganda, and complicity of these Western powers are most evident when it comes to Israel’s nuclear arsenal. None of them has questioned Israel’s illegal stockpile of atomic weapons. They turn a blind eye and secretly condone this cache because Israel is part of the Western supremacist cohort.

It is acceptable for Israel to have nuclear weapons, but not Iran, or any Arab countries such as Iraq, Libya, or Egypt. Israel has been stealing nuclear secrets and building atomic bombs since the 1950s. Why is Israel allowed to have nuclear weapons, but not Iran?

The inane and hypocritical excuse is that Iran is a rogue nation – a Middle Eastern bully (as Trump puts it) – and that Israel must defend itself from this so-called belligerent state. They claim Iran wants to destroy American puppet states like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the Emirates.

Therefore, Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear programme. However, the CIA testified in a Congressional hearing in March this year that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon.

Israel, backed by America, is the thug and aggressor in the Middle East, bombing and massacring Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, and Iranians with impunity and utter disregard for international law.

But the premier global gangster and thug is the United States of America – the only country to have dropped atomic bombs, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since World War II, the US has bombed more than 30 countries, justifying its actions under the guise of democratisation and human rights.

Most recently, the E3 – Britain, France, and Germany – met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Geneva, urging Iran to cease its nuclear programme and hostilities towards Israel, and instead pursue diplomatic resolution.

It is atrocious that they demanded this of Iran, not Israel. As expected of these Israeli lackeys, they accused Iran of aggression while portraying Israel as the victim.

But with Iran’s retaliation, the tables have turned.

Israeli settlers in the occupied territories used to sing and dance as they watched their military bomb Gaza, killing innocent women, children, and babies. They revelled in the carnage as Palestinian homes were flattened and families forced to flee.

Now, Israelis are experiencing the same fear and suffering – their homes bombed, their families running for shelter under Iranian missile fire. Some call this karma: what goes around comes around.

The latest act of thuggery and gangsterism came from the United States when it bombed nuclear sites in a sovereign country without provocation, defying international law. At the urging of Benjamin Netanyahu and his Zionist allies in America, Trump directly entered the conflict, siding with Israel under the false pretext of stopping Iran from building nuclear weapons.

But perhaps the greatest hypocrites – forked-tongued and treacherous – are the Arab states. While pretending to oppose the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the US–Israeli attacks on Iran, they are complicit in these atrocities.

They host US military bases in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, from which intelligence is fed to Israel, and even some airstrikes have reportedly been launched. They also maintain strong business ties with Israel.

This is the reality of geopolitics: lawlessness, treachery, and subterfuge now define Western engagement, led by the global thugs and gangsters – the US and Israel – and supported by the European Union and Britain, which offers military bases like Diego Garcia and Cyprus for American and Israeli use.

The result is a severe trust deficit. Their words ring hollow, and their promises and assurances are meaningless. They seek to dominate the world and impose their will on nations that refuse to submit.

But Iran, with the support of allies like China, Russia, and North Korea, has shown defiance. Together, they are opening a new front to counter Western lawlessness and champion peaceful conflict resolution.
