Lighting up lives for Deepavali

Siddharthan Children’s Home

It was indeed a happy Deepavali for the Siddharthan Children’s Home in Petaling Jaya after a donation drive netted RM2,442.70 in cash and new clothes, lots of goodies, much-needed groceries and a new stove.

Organised by voluntary social worker Seetha Rajalingam, or better known as Seeths, the 18 children from the home were treated to lunch and rides in Volkswagen Beetles and vans.

“Thank you for all the support love and hard work put into this meaningful event. My gratitude and thanks to Gardenia, Volkswagen owners, Conceptual Events & Advertising and every one of my friends who attended and contributed to this event,” said Seeths.

“I’m planning more events not just for the 18 children in Siddharthan Children’s Home but for other causes close to my heart.”

Twentytwo13 was the media partner for the event.

Fight for Change 2019

Separately, Sunway Group launched its #sunwayforgood Deepavali Cheer Programme for 900 school children in Perak.

Besides bringing smiles to the community, this programme also aims to ensure the children’s long-term future through education.

The #sunwayforgood included an educational tour at Ipoh’s renowned theme park – Lost World of Tambun – providing school supplies to students, upgrading school libraries and ICT Literacy Aid programme and R.E.A.D (Reading Enhances Aspiration and Drive).

The programme, supported by Perak Exco’s Member’s Office, the Perak Education Department, and Friends of Mankind was designed as studies showed even though there is a decline in dropout rate from 0.35 per cent in 2016 to 0.29 per cent in 2017, the highest dropout rate comprises children from the B40 group due to their parents’ inability to afford school expenses.

Sunway City Ipoh Executive Director, Wong Wan Wooi said the entire initiative was aligned to Sunway Group’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at sustainable and equitable development without leaving anyone behind.

“Our #sunwayforgood initiatives have reached out to 40,000 beneficiaries and we hope to be able to reach 50,000 beneficiaries by the end of the year.”
