MACC wades into Raub durian saga

The Pahang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the encroachment of state government land by durian farmers in Raub.

The commission said in a statement, it was gathering and going through documents related to those involved.

“MACC calls upon those with information to report to the nearest MACC office. MACC will also not compromise with any party regarding corrupt practices of abuse of power in this issue.”

The fiasco involving Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd and long-time farmers in the area has opened a can of worms.

Twentytwo13 had on Sept 4 reported the saga had irked Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Al-Sultan Abdullah was in Kuantan recently and met Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and the Raub officials to get updates on the matter. It is unclear what had transpired during that meeting.

Earlier today, Twentytwo13 reported that while all eyes are on the farmers and Royal Pahang Durian Resources, the Orang Asli community in the area seemed to be “forgotten”.

Centre for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC) coordinator Colin Nicholas said while the public is for the durian farmers as they have worked on the land for years, the durian orchards were generally Orang Asli land.
