It was a spat that saw vulgarity spewed. Yet, Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF) president Datuk S.M. Muthu downplayed the episode involving a national athlete and MAF’s general manager, saying it was a “family matter”.
According to an email with the header ‘Re: Show Cause Letter’, sighted by Twentytwo13, national discus thrower Irfan Shamsuddin wrote that he would only apologise for uttering “what the f***?” to Anthony Samy, if the general manager did the same for allegedly raising his voice and interrupting him during a prior conversation.
The spat was believed to be related to Irfan’s records. Apparently, Anthony had told the national record holder of 62.55m, that he could only find two out of the athlete’s 13 national records.
For the record, Irfan has been the Southeast Asian Games champion since 2013.
Irfan had, in his email, said there were better issues to deal with, like organising competitions, instead of taking action against his remark.
Efforts to reach Irfan proved futile. Anthony, when contacted, said: “It’s best you talk to the president.”
Muthu later told Twentytwo13: “No, no, there is no problem (between Irfan and Anthony). No problem.”
“This is like a family matter. Sometimes, people give five sen, they want 10 sen. This is a small matter … there is no problem between them.”
