Tomorrow is nomination day for Malaysia’s 15th General Election, and while there are no political party flags around most parts of Subang Jaya, excitement is still in the air.
One reason for this is the stage outside the nomination centre at Kompleks 3K Subang Jaya, at Jalan SS 13/1A.
Retiree KS Phua, 73, who lives at the apartment blocks around the corner of the complex, said: “In my years of voting, I do not remember ever seeing a stage like this. It is a good ‘advertisement’ for residents.”
“Quite a large number of my friends came to take photographs with the backdrop, I had errands to run earlier so could only come now (in the evening).
“I am excited about GE15. I am confident my candidate will win.”
Osman Mohd Yusof, 44, brought his wife, Asriza Ariffin, 42, and their five-year-old son Muqsith Nashrullah to the centre.
Osman, who works with Indah Water Konsortium, said he would be on duty at the centre tomorrow as he is a member of the Malaysia Volunteers Corps (Rela).
“I have been a Rela member since 2011, but this will be the first time I will be on duty for the general election,” said the Kota Bharu native.
“I came today to check out the venue. Since there is a stage and a big backdrop, I took pictures as a remembrance.
“I cannot wait to experience my first GE as a Rela member.”
Also at the centre were three police officers – Syazwan Roslan, Johnson Ali and Mohd Salihan Abdullah – who will be on duty tomorrow.
“Please do not write anything negative about cops, ya,” joked Syazwan.
“Tomorrow will be a big day, and I wish to remind the supporters to behave themselves.”

Meanwhile, it was quiet at the Sungai Buloh nomination centre at the Petaling District and Land Office Kenanga Hall as it was raining heavily.
A worker was putting the finishing touches to the back of the stage while several workers were getting ready to cordon off the road.
“Only those with the SPR (Election Commission) passes will be allowed into the area. Parking will be limited, so I suggest you come (for the nomination) early,” said a worker, who declined to be named.
