Pakatan Harapan supporters, Akbal and Sachdeep, steal limelight at Sungai Buloh nomination centre

A father-and-son team stole the limelight at the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat nomination centre at Dewan Kenanga, Petaling Land and District Office in Shah Alam, Selangor, this morning.

Akbal Singh, 59, and son Sachdeep, 18, were decked out in homemade outfits that displayed flags of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties and the Jalur Gemilang.

Akbal said he usually supports PH in Puchong or Lembah Pantai.

“But this year, Sungai Buloh is the hot seat as BN’s (Barisan Nasional) strongman KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin) is contesting,” said Akbal.

“He is well-known and popular, so I wanted to come here to draw attention to our candidate (Datuk R. Ramanan),” the retiree added.

Besides Khairy and Ramanan, five other candidates – Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusof (Gerakan Tanah Air), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independents Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagoff, and Nurhaslinda Basri – are vying for the parliamentary seat.

Akbal said his son, who is still studying, was looking forward to voting for the first time. This will be the first time Malaysians aged 18 will be allowed to vote, following the passing of a law in September 2019, to lower the voting age from 21 to 18.

“He will vote in Seputeh. It’s a stronghold for PH as well,” said Akbal.
