PKR rejects Dr Mahathir as PM candidate
PKR will not support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidate.
In a meeting today, the party leadership said it is open to having discussions with all parties, including Dr Mahathir, in a “bid to save Malaysia” but maintained that its leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be the PM candidate.
PKR is also gearing up for a “general election that will be called anytime.”
Academicians urge Malaysians to support Muhyiddin
Some 115 academicians, including emeritus professors Datuk Dr Ibrahim Komoo and Datuk Dr Wan Hashim Wan Teh, 21 professors and 55 senior lecturers from 25 public and private universities and teachers’ training institutes said they supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional administration.
The group also urged Malaysians to support Muhyiddin until the next general election while calling for Pakatan Harapan to form a shadow cabinet to keep the government in check.
Students allowed to travel to continue studies
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said foreign students of public and private higher learning institutions and international schools will be allowed back in Malaysia.
They must, however, undergo a Covid-19 test in the country they are in or in Malaysia. They will have to self-quarantine at home for 14 days.
Malaysian students who intend to continue their studies abroad can also travel and only need to show proof that they are students at the foreign institution at the airport’s immigration counter.
Swimming, diving allowed for athletes but not for public
National, state and club swimming and diving athletes will be able to train in the pool starting June 25. The athletes must adhere to the SOPs.
As for public pools at hotels and condominiums, the government said an SOP will be put in place before they can be opened. This would include limiting the number of swimmers based on the size of the pool and the need to have a lifeguard to monitor the number of people swimming at a given time.
You can now eat together
Patrons can now dine together at restaurants and cafes as long as physical distancing is maintained. This would mean a group of six or 10 will no longer be forced to sit at separate tables as the government will allow eateries to operate at full capacity.
As an example, Ismail Sabri said a family of six can now combine several tables and sit together as long as physical distancing is observed instead of sitting at different tables.
Kau Git Kaur breaks silence
Former national gymnast Kau Git Kaur, implicated in an alleged drug party in Puchong in January, has initiated legal action against the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) to get RM1 million the national body apparently owes him.
KLHA warns of legal action against troublemakers
Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) maintains it enjoys a good relationship with City Hall despite the local council asking the sports association to vacate its office at the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium.
KLHA president Datuk Seri Megat Shahriman Zaharudi said the association will not hesitate to “lodge a police report and initiate legal action against anyone who tries to incite or tarnish the credibility and good relationship between KLHA and City Hall.” When contacted by Twentytwo13, he clarified that this was just a “general reminder to all”.
