I really pity the public relations (PR) and communications team at Prasarana Malaysia Bhd. I really do.
The manner in which its chairman – a politician – Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman conducted this morning’s press conference regarding the mishap on the Kelana Jaya LRT line was in itself, an unmitigated train wreck.
Tajuddin’s attempt at humour, by saying the two trains kissed each other was inappropriate, to say the least. He lacked empathy.
And right after the press conference ended, the Pasir Salak MP asked a reporter where she was from. She replied “China”. His reply? “No wonder lah”.
What was that supposed to mean?
I would love to see how the team at Prasarana and others from the C-suite defend Tajuddin’s antics.
If they seriously saw nothing wrong in how Tajuddin conducted the press conference, then they are living in their own train cabin with a narrow window view of what the world thinks.
Perhaps they are so immune to the words “next station Dato’ Keramat” that they now need to hear “next chairman Dato’ … “
Yes. Prasarana needs a professional who would have handled the situation better. People were hurt – 213, to be exact. The victims, their loved ones, and regular LRT users, would want some reassurance that such an incident will not happen again.
They don’t want to know about the difference between ‘ventilation’ and ventilators, or to be schooled about what “first thing in the morning” means.
And after experiencing such a harrowing incident, with six in critical condition, I don’t know if the victims would feel insulted with the “RM1,000 special assistance” that will be handed out by the company.
I know I would.
