In conjunction with his 63rd birthday, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu conferred state honours on 147 individuals during a State Decorations and Awards Ceremony at Istana Syarqiyyah in Kuala Terengganu on May 4.

Also in attendance were the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah; the Yang Dipertuan Muda of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail; as well as Their Royal Highnesses, Tengku Puteri Utama Raja, Tengku Sri Setia Mahkota Raja, and Tengku Puteri Daulath Raja.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and his wife, To’ Puan Seri Tuan Faizah Tuan Ab Rahman, were also present, alongside members of the State Executive Council and senior state government officials.

Sultan Mizan, who served as Malaysia’s 13th King from Dec 13, 2006 to Dec 12, 2011, presented six Pingat Jasa Cemerlang (PJC), 128 Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), one Bintang Lama Berjawatan (BLB), and 12 Pingat Lama Berjawatan (PLB) medals.

The ceremony followed a similar event held the previous week, where 130 individuals received honours. Among them were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, and Melati Ehsan Holdings Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Yap Suan Chee, who were each conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu (SSMZ) Yang Amat Terpilih award, which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’.

Separately, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, attended the Nusantara Charity Dinner hosted by Kelab Bakti Gunung Keledang at the Ipoh Convention Centre.

The event, which featured Datuk M. Nasir, was held to raise funds for the club’s upcoming programmes and drew a crowd of about 1,400 guests.

Club president Muhammad Hamzah said the club aims to align its initiatives with the state’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda. He also sought royal consent for the club to contribute to the 500th anniversary celebrations of the Perak Sultanate.

The dinner raised RM150,000, which will benefit 10 local organisations, including orphanages, educational centres, a student fund for orphans, an association for persons with disabilities, and a religious school.

The evening also saw the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the club and various bodies, including the Ipoh City Council, the Community Development Department, and Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah.
