MEASAT to help military personnel deployed at remote borders connect with the world

MEASAT Global Bhd will provide CONNECTme NOW satellite broadband services for free under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme to frontline Malaysian Armed Forces personnel stationed at selected remote border checkpoints across Malaysia.

The company, in a statement today, said it was committed to providing broadband coverage, including to the most remote areas of the country.

“MEASAT recognises the dedication of our military personnel and is pleased to support the Malaysian Armed Forces in keeping our borders safe. Being away from loved ones for extended periods can sometimes be challenging, so we would like to make it more convenient for our dedicated soldiers to stay connected with their families through our high-speed platform,” said Yau Chyong Lim, MEASAT’s chief operating officer.

Malaysian Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang welcomed the contribution, adding it was essential to the wellbeing of the military personnel stationed in the remote border posts.

“The Malaysian Armed Forces also welcomes the efforts of the private sector in contributing their specialised capabilities, in honouring the service and sacrifices of the security forces in protecting the nation. I look forward to other potential collaborations in the future,” Affendi added.

CONNECTme NOW is a community-focused satellite broadband service and to date, provides 400,000 broadband connections within unconnected communities living outside of 4G or terrestrial coverage areas, nationwide.

MEASAT believes its ability to deliver high-speed satellite broadband connectivity nationwide makes it a strategic partner in supporting the government’s aspirations in achieving 100 per cent internet coverage in populated areas by 2025.
