KUALA TERENGGANU: Pusat Sains & Kreativiti Terengganu (PSKT) is now making its mark in the local tourism industry after being named Best STEM Edutainment Centre at the 2026 Tourism Industry Awards.
The state science and creativity centre was established as a public institution focused on science education and outreach among communities in the East Coast.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Malaysia International Tourism Development Association, was held last Sunday.
The recognition is expected to give PSKT a stronger foothold in the tourism sector while supporting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
“The hard work we have put in over the years, with visitor numbers always serving as one of PSKT’s key benchmarks, has helped the institution remain relevant despite the many options and platforms now available for science education,” said Mohd Huzairil Nizam Ibrahim, who has served as the centre’s chief executive officer since 2022.
“Certainly, this award enhances PSKT’s profile and recognition, as our responsibility is no longer limited to science education and outreach. We are now recognised as an established player in the tourism industry, and we can build on this recognition further.”
Meanwhile, the 2026 National Science Week East Zone, hosted by PSKT in July for the fourth consecutive year, recorded its highest attendance with 20,419 visitors, including those from outside Terengganu and overseas, surpassing the initial target of 15,000 visitors.
The programme is organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
PSKT was launched in March 2005 and initially operated at the Terengganu Trade Centre before moving to Kampung Laut, Kuala Terengganu, with full-scale operations at its own facility beginning in April 2016.
